About Me

I was introduced to yoga when a friend took me to my first class in 2013. I was a new mom and had a limited amount of time to spend taking care of myself. The hour long class was packed and sweaty and every pose felt like the hardest thing I’d ever done! It wasn’t until the last pose, savasana, that I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and release. I cried all the way home and every tear felt like a thousand pounds of weight falling from my body. I knew in that moment that a yoga practice was something I needed in my life.

Three years later I completed my first formal Hatha Yoga Teacher Training and my Yogahour Certification under the instruction of Darren Rhodes and Sam Rice at YogaOasis. Learning and growing with this amazing group of people started opening my heart along with my body as I became more and more comfortable unbecoming everything I had been so for many years. With the help of yoga, I was able to kick a 15 year smoking habit and never looked back. The very next year I signed up for my 2nd teacher training including a formal year of Sanskrit Studies with my teacher Manorama, to deepen my knowledge and dedication to this amazing practice of yoga.

I have been teaching since 2016 and find that every single class teaches me more than the last. This community of students and teachers alike has held me together when I was falling apart, humbled me when I thought I was on top of the world and taught me that I am stronger than I give myself credit for.

In my classes, I aim to offer clear alignment instructions in an upbeat yet safe and supportive space. I have been known to lovingly challenge my students and tell a joke at the most inopportune time to keep the practice lighthearted!

Art and Sol Tattoo Gallery

In 2019, my husband David Meek and I opened Art and Sol Tattoo Gallery, Tucson’s first local focused art gallery and by appointment only tattoo studio. Around the shop I am known as “Mama Johnna” and have affectionately earned the title of “Director of Heart”. My love of visual art has come to life in the art gallery where I host a new Tucson Artist every month. (Insider note: our tattoo shop is built inside of an old yoga studio!) David has been tattooing in Tucson for 14 years and been nominated “Best Tattoo Artist” 3 years running in the Tucson Weekly!
